The blackout

And on Monday, April 29th, for 10 hours, we looked up from our screens and were happy. During that time, we went outside, interacted, and talked with our neighbors, friends, and family. We returned to a time without social media, without text messages every 10 seconds. We were able to focus our attention on what was important and close to home, without unnecessary distractions that affect our mood and emotions. Focusing on sports, I went to the gym on the day of the blackout, already with the problem on my mind. What I saw seemed wonderful. Suddenly, there were no cell phones, no athletes sitting on machines absorbed in their screens, people with headphones listening to music. Suddenly, we returned to the gyms of old, where we trained together, looked at each other's faces, shared equipment, sports experience, and learned from each other. And from a more technical sports perspective, active rest after a series of any exercise, especially if we've performed it at a high power level, helps us recover more from that effort than sitting on the bench staring at a screen.
Hopefully, this brief moment has served to make us reflect on the path we are taking with a constant connection to the digital world.
